Jacobs Oddities

I am not a usual crisp-a-holic but if I’m in the mood then multi packs beware I could eat the lot whilst watching TV and not even realise until it is too late!

I try not to have them in the house just because of that reason. Life is much easier if temptation is removed completely and I don’t have the opportunity to gorge myself to death like the man in the film Seven!

So when it comes to snacks if I do buy any in then I try to be as healthy as possible and so when I discovered Jacob’s Oddities on offer in my local supermarket I thought I would give them a go and buy them. Evan, my 11-year-old garbage disposal unit (otherwise known as a growing boy) loves crisps so second reason why I don’t buy them.

He loves salt and vinegar flavour anything, so I purchased a couple of bags of Oddities in this flavour although they also are available in Smokey Bacon, Ready Salted, Cheese and Sour Cream & Chive.

You can buy a large sharing bag 125grams or a multi-bag which holds 5 individual portion size packets (Smokey Bacon and Cheese also in 30-gram bags). Retailing at around £1.59 for the multi-pack they are great value for money!

I find them absolutely delicious and the baked recipe makes them almost ‘puffy’ crackers – really light and crispy with a lovely texture.

They come in all different shapes which are also used as their main marketing strategy. Ev and I make up little stories whilst we eat them!

So here comes the science bit:

As they are baked the fat difference is huge, 24% LESS than a standard pack of Walkers crisps but they are high in carbs and protein. If you are looking for something to nibble on though as part of a calorie controlled diet and follow a sensible exercise plan they are very good:

There are 114 calories in a 1 bag serving of Jacob's Oddities.
Calorie Breakdown: 30% fat, 61% carbs, 9% protein.
There are 130 calories in a 1 bag serving of Walkers Salt and Vinegar Crisps.
Calorie breakdown: 54% fat, 41% carbs, 5% protein.

I think that is always what I miss on a ‘diet’ that lovely crunchy, crispy texture that you can really chomp on. Too much soft, sloppy and runny food can get so boring! On Slimming World, they count as 5 syns so you could eat 3 in a day if you so wish. Weight Watchers have them as 3 points. So pretty much allowed on a healthy eating plan which is brilliant!

I would totally recommend them as an alternative to a bag of crisps and don’t be put off if one flavour isn’t to your taste, you are sure to find one that you can’t resist!

Yummy
